Welcome to Larne and District Angling Association

The Way Forward

It is now the aim of The Larne and District Game Angling Association to increase its membership
and to encourage visiting anglers to Larne Town and the Inver River.

We have a 3 point plan to try and achieve this aim.

  • The 'EU Funded' Hatchery will enable us to rear and stock our indigenous brown trout throughout the lower stretches of the Inver River which was hit hard by past pollution incidents. We will also be keeping up our ongoing stocking of sea-trout. The stocking programme will of course be done on a sustainable level.
  • The banks of the lower river 'town stretch' are generally overgrown with trees and access is a problem. Although we have the fishing rights in the river the pathways and river banks are the responsibility of our local council. We will now try and work with Larne Borough Council via the Liaison Committee to eradicate this problem and open up at least another mile of  brown trout fishing
  • Larne and District Game Angling Association believe that we are now in a position to encourage more membership and attract visitors to our fishery. We especially want to encourage more juniors into the sport of angling and give them an opportunity to see what a clean river environment has to offer. They will continue to use it, enjoy it, understand it, want to protect it and will introduce others to the sport of angling.

All members are covered by club as well as personal insurance through the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland of which we are affiliated; Day Permit holders are covered by the club insurance policy for that particular day while fishing on our river.

The Larne and District Game Angling Association is twinned with the Bilberry and Lannagh Angling Club, Castlebar, Eire, and we travel down each year to fish for the Heitons Cup on Bilberry Lake against the Bilberry and Lannagh team.

The Association also send a team to 'The Rosses' in Donegal each year to fish and hopefully qualify for the TAFI Ulster team.

The Larne and District Game Angling Association is a member of the Anglers Conservation Association.
